Using the Kenyan Coast to develop Ambiance Enhancement illustrations for Sagwe Apartments’ Restaurant, Nairobi

                                                  Introduction
Art doesn’t have a use the way a car does; it is, above all, first and foremost useless. The moment
an art object acquires any use, it becomes something else- craft, decoration, Design.
Heskett says- “Design is to design the design of a design.” In his description, he explains that the
first design could refer to a policy or a general idea, the second design could be an action, the third
design could be a plan or intention whereas the fourth refers to a finished product. In simpler terms,
to design is to devise courses of action aimed at changing existing situations into preferred ones
(Herbert Simon Nobel laureate).
Illustration comes from the Latin word illustra’tio, illu’stro meaning enlighten, irradiate. Illustration
Design is a visualization or a depiction of a subject made by an artist in order to communicate
to a targeted audience. Illustrations and paintings have been widely used for aesthetic purposes in
restaurants, houses, hotels, etc. This is because illustrations and paintings will not only improve the
physical appeal of the place which host them, but serves many other purposes. Paintings can create
a soothing atmosphere which may calm a rather tense person or work someone up depending on the
hues the painting employs. Colours are said to be therapeutic and can actually be used as a form of
treatment.
Chromotherapy is a method of treatment that uses the visible spectrum (colors) of electromagnetic
radiation to cure diseases. It is a centuries-old concept used successfully over the years to cure
various diseases. A few researchers have tried to discover the underlying scientific principles, but
without quantitative study. Sufficient published material can be found about the subject that provides
a complete system of treatment focused on the treatment methodologies and healing characteristics
of colors.
Kenyan interior design on guest houses and hotels has grown over the years. Various aspects,
technologies have been revised and improvised. The most recent guest house resort being highlighted
is The Rutundu Cabins in the northern part of Mt. Kenya where Prince William of England proposed
to his now wife Kate Middleton. With such superb and highlighted events taking place within Kenyan
accommodations, it is important to create interiors that are at per with the world‘s standards. The
guest houses have proven to be great for the Kenyan economy in terms of wealth creation through
job opportunities and investments.
