BATA-YOUNG DESIGNERS CHALLENGE 2019
Evolution of style is this year's Young Designers Bata challenge theme.
The annual Bata competition has 10 contestants from universities across the world. The countries represented are Kenya, Czech Republic and Italy. The contestants have been challenged to design sneakers around the theme.
The kenyan representatives are design finalist students at the School of Arts and Design who have also made it to the finals of the competition. The two will be part of the crowning team of the challenge to be held in Prague- Ukraine between 12th and 14th April, 2019.
Anita Wairimu's brand of Savannah combines a sandal with a traditional derby shoe fondly used by Swahili people at the Kenya Coast.
The Savannah is dubbed BATA TUNAYO in swahili which translates to ''Bata we've got it''
The other Kenyan contestant Cyprian Kaswili's brand is dubbed the Blossom. Cyprian's design was inspired by the blossoming flowers, chirping birds and the dark natural stones from Konzo- a Kenyan town.
