RESEARCH WEEK 2023 PROGRAM

The Department of Art and Design hosted the Design methodologies for job creation in Afrika on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023. The conference was part of the 6th edition of the Annual Research Week, which ran from October 23rd to 27th. The theme for this year’s research week was “Harnessing Research for Resilience and Sustainability of Communities.”

CALL FOR PAPERS

The African Review Journal is a publication nestled at the Department of Art and Design within the Faculty of Built Environment at the University of Nairobi. It is a journal that serves the Design community and traverses all its facets. These include but are not limited to Product  Design, Interior Design, the Built Environment, Visual Communication, Ecology, Culture, Sustainability, Fashion Design. The journal delivers timely, original, scholarly work that is previously unpublished.

RESEARCH WEEK 2023

According to an Article written on the 14 September 2022 in the Africa Renewal by Raphael Obonyo,it is revealed that approximately 10-12 million young Africans are released unto the job market annually. Unfortunately, there are only about 3 million formal jobs waiting for them. According to the African Development Bank (AFDB), this deteriorated further due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Join us at a workshop titled "Design Methodologies of job creation in Afrika" held by the Department of Art and Design, nestled within the Faculty of the Built Environment  at the University of Nairobi.

The DVC, Administration and Finance Visit Department of Art and Design to assess freshers registration progress and meet the staff

The DVC, Administration and Finance visited the Department of Art and Design to see how the registration of the freshers was progressing. While he was with us, he congratulated our latest PhD graduate Dr. Joyce Akach and bade farewell to Assistant Professor Collins Makunda. Collins proceeds to Northumbria University in the United Kingdom, where he is now a Faculty member at the School of Design.

Congratulations to our latest Doctorate Graduand, Joyce Akach. Joyce worked long hard hours to write her PhD Thesis titled "Co-designing for Sustainable Community- Based Tourism  Enterprises in Homabay County" we, at the Department of Art and Design are proud of you. May you make many student lives better and change Design Education.

DEPARTMENT OF ART AND DESIGN EXHIBITED ART WORK AT THE INTER- UNI ART EXHIBITION AT KENYATTA UNIVERSITY

Teresa Gachoka and Billy Kisia, of the Department of Art and Design exhibited Art works at the Inter- Uni Art Exhibition held at the Kenyatta University Confucius Institute on Thursday July 27, 2023. The theme of the exhibition was on Gender Matters and the sub-theme of their chosen topic gender abuse. The exhibition will be launched online in Pretoria, South Africa later this year. Each artist shows on of their pieces here.

COLLABORATION OPPORTUNITIES WITH MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY

The Department of Art and Design at  the University FADD Building were visited by Ass. Prof. Roland Graf PhD, on July 27, 2023 from the Penny W. Stamps  School of Art and Design, University of Michigan, USA where Roland  is an Associate Professor. He and Andreia Rocha Souza Graf spent the  morning at the Department, where he explained to Dr. Samuel Maina and Dr. Francisca Odundo about the workings of his institution. They in turn, took Prof. Roland  through the workings of the host Department and further gave him a tour of the premises.
