The Centre for Urban and Rural Linkages Africa entrusted the students at the Dept. of Art and Design nestled within the Faculty of the Built Environment at the University of Nairobi to design a logo for them. The students did not let them down and created a variety of logos for them to select from. The students were awarded handsomely for their efforts, with the winner Mr. Kennedy Musembi receiving Ksh. 35,000. The UN Habitat did not forget the rest of the competitors and graciously donated books to the library for them. The dignitaries present at the Awards ceremony were Prof. Isaac K.
The Department of Art and Design hosted the Design methodologies for job creation in Afrika on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023. The conference was part of the 6th edition of the Annual Research Week, which ran from October 23rd to 27th. The theme for this year’s research week was “Harnessing Research for Resilience and Sustainability of Communities.”
The African Review Journal is a publication nestled at the Department of Art and Design within the Faculty of Built Environment at the University of Nairobi. It is a journal that serves the Design community and traverses all its facets. These include but are not limited to Product Design, Interior Design, the Built Environment, Visual Communication, Ecology, Culture, Sustainability, Fashion Design. The journal delivers timely, original, scholarly work that is previously unpublished.
According to an Article written on the 14 September 2022 in the Africa Renewal by Raphael Obonyo,it is revealed that approximately 10-12 million young Africans are released unto the job market annually. Unfortunately, there are only about 3 million formal jobs waiting for them. According to the African Development Bank (AFDB), this deteriorated further due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Join us at a workshop titled "Design Methodologies of job creation in Afrika" held by the Department of Art and Design, nestled within the Faculty of the Built Environment at the University of Nairobi.
The DVC, Administration and Finance visited the Department of Art and Design to see how the registration of the freshers was progressing. While he was with us, he congratulated our latest PhD graduate Dr. Joyce Akach and bade farewell to Assistant Professor Collins Makunda. Collins proceeds to Northumbria University in the United Kingdom, where he is now a Faculty member at the School of Design.

Joyce worked long hard hours to write her PhD Thesis titled "Co-designing for Sustainable Community- Based Tourism Enterprises in Homabay County" we, at the Department of Art and Design are proud of you. Teresa Gachoka and Billy Kisia, of the Department of Art and Design exhibited Art works at the Inter- Uni Art Exhibition held at the Kenyatta University Confucius Institute on Thursday July 27, 2023. The theme of the exhibition was on Gender Matters and the sub-theme of their chosen topic gender abuse. The exhibition will be launched online in Pretoria, South Africa later this year.
