NIDEC 2020 Call for Papers

Design Kenya Society has launched this year's annual Nairobi International Design Conference (NIDEC) theme dabbed Design zeitgeist Africa (DZA).

The event scheduled for September will run through 25th to 28th and will be seeking to mirror the aspirations, the heart and soul of Africa design for posterity. The conference will concide with the Design Kenya Society DSA commemoration of a decade continuous engagement with designers at home in Kenya, across the African continent and throughout the world.

The four days event will be held through keynote speakers, exhibition, conference papers, fashion show, networking and discussions drawing participants from students, professionals, academia, institutions and other industry players to dissect the Design zeitgeist Africa sub themes.

DZA three sub themes that will form the conference talking points are well anchored in Africa's global aspirations as well as Kenya's development agenda. The themes are;

(1)ICT which will be focusing on Artificial intelligence, gaming, Virtual machine and animation,

(2) Manufacturing which will focus on value chains to spur export growth and

(3) Built environment which will focus on sustainable materials and technologies.

In line with this year's conference goal to reinforce the resolve of designers at driving the development of sustainable solutions for Africa, NIDEC will be looking at opportunities from its success while re-examing it's challenges.

The conference will provide opportunities for designers to identify their niche, strengthen the resolve and seek to uplift budding designers. School of the Arts and Design is among the stakeholders of this annual event.
